Let’s Compare the Gemini and the Gemini Mini

Let’s Compare the Gemini and the Gemini Mini

We get lots of questions about what really are the differences between the Gemini and the Gemini Mini. Both of these bags were designed with the intention to support a busy lifestyle and have the ability to pack everything you need for the day. The original Gemini Convertible Backpack was created, and it was decided that there needed to be a version of this bag made, well, mini! There are some other differences between these two styles other than the size, so if you have been wondering which bag to choose, this blog is for you!

Pockets

The Gemini Mini has two trimmed flat pockets, two elastic pockets, a pen slot, two side pockets, and one large zippered front pocket. The Gemini also has two trimmed pockets, but contains three elastic pockets, does not have a pen slot, has larger side pockets, and also has one large zippered front pocket. The main differences between the pockets are the additional elastic pocket you get in the Gemini and the pen slot that is only included in the Gemini Mini.

Luggage Sleeves

Worried about getting a bag that has a luggage sleeve? No need! Both the Gemini and the Gemini Mini include a luggage sleeve that converts to a pocket when not in use. If you travel with a suitcase a lot, consider the dimensions of the bag that will be stacked on top of your luggage. If you will predominantly use your bag as a carry-on, consider what you personally pack in your carry-on, and check out our carry-on blog to see what everything looks like in a Gemini Convertible Backpack!

Ways to Wear

Both the Gemini and the Gemini Mini can be worn four different ways. They can be worn as a handbag by holding the small straps, a crossbody with the adjustable strap attached, over the shoulder with the adjustable strap, and as a backpack with the adjustable strap tied to create straps. Watch the video here where you can see how to convert your Gemini or Gemini Mini into a backpack!

SIDE POCKETS

The most important thing to consider when it comes to the side pockets would be the side of your tumbler, water bottle, coffee cup, or other drink cups you carry with you from day to day. If you do not really have a preference on how large your cup can be, then you can’t go wrong with either. However, if you already own a "comfort" 40 oz water bottle, then you’ll need a Gemini! The Gemini can hold up to a 64 oz water tumbler, or 4.75” in diameter whereas the Gemini Mini can fit a 32 oz water tumbler, or 3" in diameter.

Laptop Sleeves

Laptops have so much variation, so we always recommend checking out our past blogs about how to measure your laptop to make sure your laptop will fit in each bag. Check out the info on the Gemini here, and Gemini Mini here

For the Gemini Mini, most laptops that measure up to 14” in diagonal length and 12” in width should fit in the Gemini Mini’s laptop sleeve. For the button to snap closed at the top of the padded laptop sleeve, we recommend that the laptop not stand taller than 7.5" inside the Gemini Mini. For the Gemini, most laptops that measure up to 17.3” in diagonal length and 15” in width should fit in the Gemini’s laptop sleeve. For the button to snap closed at the top of the padded laptop sleeve, we recommend that the laptop not stand taller than 9" inside the Gemini.
